461 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SNOOKS, Charles W. Charles was born on January 17, 1907 in Goulais Bay, Algoma District, ON. He enlisted in the Army on May 30, 1940 and served with the Royal Canadian Artillery in Canada and in the United Kingdom during World War II. He was discharged on May 2, 1945. Upon his return to Canada, Charles was able to work at a job he loved, as a mechanic. For a time, he was the owner and operator of his own garage in Sault St. Marie. Charles passed away on February 22, 1969. SPADONI, Renato L. Renato was born on May 22, 1916 in White River, ON. He enlisted in the Army in 1949 and served with the Canadian Armed Forces for three years in Camp Shilo, MB. He was assigned to manage the canteen, where he distributed confectionery and other products to the soldiers. He was discharged in 1943. Upon his return home to White River, ON he rejoined his family business in the operation of Spadoni Bros. Limited – General Merchants. Along with his wife Carmela (Graziano), they continued to work in the business into their senior years, watching it grow and develop through many diverse transitions. Renato held a kind, loving spirit – dedicated to his community, strongly supporting both The Royal Canadian Legion and the Knights of Columbus. His wife, daughters and grandchildren were blessed by his unconditional love. Renato passed away on December 26, 2006. SOULIS, Steve C. Steve was born on July 2, 1940 in Montreal, QC. At the age of fifteen, he enlisted at 3PD Quebec City, Quebec in the RCASC 7 year Soldier Apprentice Training Plan located at the RCASC School in Camp Borden, Ontario in 1956. He served as a peacekeeper in Egypt (Gaza Strip) from 1960 to 1961 with 56 Transport and was primarily attached to the UN Civilian and Canadian Forces pay masters. He was also a band member of the 56 Transport Canadian Contingent Bugle Band. He participated in the UN Olympic Games doing the 100 meter sprint and Javelin throw. He was the President of the Caledonia East Legion Branch 282 from 1980 to 1982. He was also the President of the RCASC Association, Ontario from 2006 to 2011. Most of his civilian life, he worked for a number of EPC Engineering companies including his final one at SNC Lavalin as a quality assurance/ quality control manager across Canada and Saudi Arabia. He retired in 2006 at the age of 66. For his service, Steve received the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) Medal and the Peacekeeping Medal.
