Military Service Recognition Book 458 ONTARIO COMMAND SMITH, Norman L. Norman was born in January of 1886 in Kincardine, Ontario. He enlisted in the 160th in 1915. After 160th was disbanded, he joined the Engineers. He served in France and Belgium during World War I. Norman was never married. Before the war, he farmed in Western Canada. After his discharge in 1919, he returned to Tiverton and was a competent carpenter. Norman passed away in August of 1950. SMITH, Robert N. Robert was born on March 29, 1919 in Imperial, SK. He enlisted in the Army on October 9, 1940. He served from 1940 to 1945 with the Highland Light Infantry in England, France, Holland and Germany during World War II. Robert was wounded in Germany. After the war, he married Maxine Holbrook in 1946 and he was a farmer in Thedford, ON from 1946 to his death on January 18, 2001. He is buried at Pinehill Cemetery. SMITH, Robert D. Robert was born on February 6, 1907 in Nova Scotia. He enlisted in the RCNR as a Seaman on May 7, 1941 and served in Canada, the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean during World War II. While in the service, he received several medals. Robert was discharged on June 21, 1945 at the rank of Leading Seaman. Upon return to civilian life, he worked in the Joggins Cumberland County coal mine. He had twelve children. Robert was an active Legion member and went on to be the Legion’s President. He passed away on June 12, 1979.
