391 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WREN, Raymond Joseph Raymond was born in Toronto, ON on July 12, 1922. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on August 23, 1943 and served during World War I as a gunner in England. He had been shot in the shoulder during conflict, with the bullet traveling straight through the front and out the back. Raymond was discharged on August 26, 1946. He passed away on April 17, 1987. Raymond had been a member of Port Perry Legion Branch 419. WRIGHT, John A. John was born on January 13, 1893 in Hepworth, ON to Alexander Wright and Jane Malloy. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on June 11, 1915 and served with the 37th Battalion and the 42nd Battalion in England, Britain, and France during World War I. In February 1916, he became very ill with pneumonia and was transferred to various hospitals, ending in France. On June 9, 1917, he was shipped home from Liverpool. Unable to perform his duties, he was discharged on September 30, 1917 and was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. He married Clara Christie on February 3, 1919. After the war, he worked as a linesman for the Hydro. At the age of 31, John was electrocuted and was buried with honours. WRIGHT, Elmer J. “Emmy” Elmer was born in Trout Creek, ON on August 6, 1917. He enlisted in the Navy on August 11, 1941 and served in Combined Opps on various ships, finally on HMCS Prince David when he was discharged on July 12, 1945, where he served as coxswain aboard LCA 1375. He was present for the landings at North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Greece, Malta and Juno Beach, Normandy. He ferried both men and supplies to the beaches, sailed the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans, through the Suez and Panama Canals, and around South Africa. He beamed with great pride when he discovered a photo of his craft LCA 1375 featured in numerous books and in Canada’s War Museum in Ottawa, as well as in Panel 24 of the broidered tapestry in Portsmouth, England. Elmer was a member of Sarnia Legion Branch 62 for 47 years before he passed away on October 31, 2012.
