Military Service Recognition Book 390 ONTARIO COMMAND WOOD, George S. George was born on December 28, 1940 in Toronto, ON. On August 27, 1957, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army. He served with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signal in Egypt, Cyprus, and Germany. Joining as a soldier apprentice at the age of 16, he served 38 years in both Signals and the Communications and Electronic Branch as a ratio technician and later as a communication technician. He retired with the rank of Master Warrant Officer on August 20, 1995. George has been a member of Carleton Place Legion Branch 192 for 9 years. WOSZCZYNSKI, Thadeusz “Ted” Ted was born in Slonim, Poland on October 27, 1923. He enlisted in the Polish Navy and served in Poland, England, Scotland, Africa and Gibraltar. Petty Officer Woszczynski served as a radio operator on the North Atlantic convoy runs as convoy escort on destroyers. He escorted convoys to Gibraltar, Dakar, Freetown and Lagos. He took part in the Azores Operation and was part of the Normandy invasion on June 6, 1944. His medals include the 1939-45 War Medal, the Atlantic Star, the Africa Star, the France and Germany Star, and the Siberian Deportee Cross. He was a member of Kapuskasing Legion Branch 85 for 55 years. Ted passed away on September 16, 2012. WOOD, Leonard Allister “Woody” Woody was born in Springhill, NS on November 24, 1949. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on November 25, 1970 and served as Peacekeeper with the 3 RCR Petawawa and 3 Mech Cdo Germany from July 1971 to August 1980. Woody remustered to Traffic Technician in 1980 and served throughout Canada and the world in the Movements Field. He was inducted into the Order of Military Merit on October 28, 1998. He served with the United Nations and NATO in the Middle East and Southwest Asia in support of Peacekeeping Operations and the fight against terrorism. He was awarded the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal and Southwest Asia Service Medal. Woody is retired and involved with the Pembroke Regional International Silver Stick as a Convener. He has been a member of Legion Branch 721 in Pembroke, ON for five years. His grandfather, Joseph Holloway Sr., served in the 106th Nova Scotia Rifles during World War I.
