He enlisted in the Canadian army at the outbreak of World War II and arrived in the Netherlands near the end of the war where he met and married my mother's sister. When my aunt came to join her new husband in Canada, she naturally kept in touch with the family back in the "old country"and marvelled at what a wondrous place this was. As a result, my parents made the most important decision of their young lives and moved their family (my older brother, myself and my younger sister) to Canada with "Uncle Russ" as our sponsor in October of 1951 . My father, who was in the Dutch army, was a carpenter by trade and went into construction here and I followed in his footsteps, starting our partnership in 1974. This year will mark 40 years in business, all with the help of this wonderful veteran who passed away in June, 2013 at the age of 93. I will be forever grateful that he touched our lives.
