271 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND RAE, Arnold R. Arnold was born in Markdale, Ontario on July 4, 1924. He joined the Canadian Army on December 17, 1942 and served in Holland, France and Germany with the Highland Light Infantry. In April 1945, he was wounded in the neck and he had previously suffered from a broken shoulder, an injury sustained while on duty as a dispatch rider in the infantry. He was discharged on June 7, 1946. Arnold was a member of St. Mary’s Legion Branch 236 for thirteen years before he passed away on January 26, 1999. RENTON, Harold Harold was born on November 22, 1910 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and later moved to the Simcoe area. He enlisted in July 1940 with the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders in Hamilton, Ontario and initially served in Canada and Jamaica. In 1943, he served in England and in 1944, fought in France where he was injured in August of that year. Harold returned to active duty within a month and on October 29, 1944, was killed in fierce fighting in Holland. He left behind his wife Olive and two children. His father, Lt. Colonel William Renton served with the 39th Regiment, Norfolk Rifles in the early 1900s. RATCLIFF, David W. David was born on April 7, 1961 in Toronto, Ontario. He began his career in the Reserves in June 1977 with the 25th (TOR) Service Battalion as a weapon technician. He transferred to the Regular Force and was posted to 1 CBG & HQ and SIGS Squadron at Transport in Calgary, Alberta. David was discharged in October 1983. He has been a member of the Mount Dennis Legion Branch 31 for thirty years.
