IPV - Older Adults ● VPI - personnes âgées 57 Safety Planning Safety plans are a common tool to help identify actions to increase safety and prepare in advance for further violence. There are many templates for safety plans and safety plans can be used in a variety of situations, but they are made before a crisis happens to help you know what to do when an emergency occurs. Safety plans should be written down and kept in a secure location that you can easily access. It is very important that a partner who is using abusive behaviours does not find your safety plan. When creating a safety plan, here are some things to consider: 1. Making photocopies of important documents and storing them in a safe place, away from the originals. a. Photocopies of important documents like passports, identification cards, health cards and immigration documents for all family members. b. Prescriptions, medical and vaccination records for all family members. c. School records and work permits d. Marriage, divorce, custody, mortgage or rental, and legal documents, including court orders and protection orders. 2. Keeping a purse or bag handy in case you need to leave quickly which contains: a. keys, driver’s license, registration and insurance, b. pictures of your spouse and children, c. emergency cash, d. a cell phone, e. extra medications and a list of their dosages 3. Keeping the following items close so you can grab them quickly: a.A packed emergency suitcase or bag b. Special toys or comfort items for children c. Medications d. Jewelry and other sentimental items e.A written list of important phones numbers including information for friends/family and local emergency services.
