Dating can be scary and there isn’t a lot of information for older adults about how to be safe. If you’re dating, there are ways to keep yourself safe: Take time to get to know each other. Take dating slow and really get to know the person you’re dating. Ask a lot of questions and if they’re unwilling to answer questions, they may be trying to hide something. Meet in Public. If you’re meeting up with a date, especially if it’s someone that you don’t know, meet in a public place like a restaurant or café. Be careful about inviting people to your home, especially if you don’t know them well. Take your own transportation. If you can, arrange for your own transportation to and from the date. Listen to your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. Leave as soon as possible. Tell someone where you’re going. Always let someone know where you’re going, who you will be with and when you’re expected home. Check in with them after the date to let them know you’ve made it home safe.
