FAMILY VIOLENCE – VIOLENCE FAMILIALE 5 Warning Signs Family violence can be difficult to recognize for a variety of reasons. In some circumstances violence may be so normalized that people don’t realize that the behaviours are abusive. Other times, the impacts of emotional, verbal, spiritual, financial or sexual abuse are harder to recognize by family and friends, which makes it harder for loved ones to offer support. Here are some warning signs to watch out for in your loved ones: • Do they have unexplained bruises, cuts or other marks? • Are they fearful of their partner or guardian? • Does their partner call them sexual names or share sexual photos of them? • Does their partner always need to know where they are and who they’re with? • Does their partner prevent them from seeing family/friends? • Do they make negative comments about the people and things they love? • Has their partner ruined employment opportunities for them? • Is their clothing inadequate to protect the child from the weather? • Are they forbidden from practicing their faith? • Does the child withdraw from friends and activities they used to enjoy?
