He enlisted with the Canadian Forces in October 1965 and was posted with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. He served in the United Nations Peacekeeping missions in Cyprus (1970), Egypt (1979) and Israel in 1980. From 1972 until 1976 he was with the NATO Forces in Europe/Germany. Sonny is the recipient of the Canadian Forces’ Decoration with Clasp, UNFCYP Cyprus, UNDOF Golan Heights, UNEF Egypt, Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal and the NATO Medal. He is the President of The Royal Canadian Legion, Cape Tormentine Branch 81, past District Commander of Westmorland Albert and past 1st Vice President of NB Command. Sonny’s grandfather served in World War I and both his mother and father served in World War II. Sonny est né le 18 juin 1948 et a grandi à Cape Tormentine, au N.-B. McCARTHY, Gregory WWII/Deuxième Guerre mondiale Gregory was born on February 28, 1922 in Grand Falls, NB. He enlisted with the Canadian Army on March 24, 1941 and served with the 1st Battalion NB Rangers, Royal Canadian Infantry Corps in Canada, France, Germany and Holland. Private McCarthy died of injuries received from an accidental shooting on January 19, 1945. He was the recipient of the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the War Medal 1939-1945. His mother received the Memorial Cross. He is buried in the Bergen-op-Zoom Canadian War Cemetery in the Netherlands. Gregory est né le 28 février 1922 à Grand-Sault, au N.-B. Sa mère a reçu la Croix du souvenir. Il est enterré au cimetière de guerre canadien de Bergen-op-Zoom, aux Pays-Bas. McLAUGHLAN, Jack WWII/Deuxième Guerre mondiale Jack was born in Galston, Scotland on September 9, 1920. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1929 and settled in Belleisle Creek. He enlisted with the Canadian Army on October 4, 1939 and was posted with the Carleton and York Regiment, serving in Canada, England and Italy. On December 19, 1943 he was seriously wounded while in the field and passed away the next day. He was the recipient of the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Both his wife and mother received the Memorial Cross. Private McLaughlan is buried in the Morro River Cemetery, Ortona, Italy. Jack est né à Galston, en Écosse, le 9 septembre 1920.
