91 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca HENDRICKSON (DEWALT) (FLOOD), Irene WWII Irene enlisted in 1943 in the CWAC (Canadian Women’s Army Corps). She served with the Occupation Force in England and Germany for two years. Irene received her discharge in 1946. HENDRICKSON, Kermit WWII Kermit enlisted in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in November 1941. He went overseas in March 1942 and transferred to the Royal Regina Rifles. He served in England and France. He was promoted to Lance Corporal. Kermit was wounded on June 6, 1944, D-Day at Normandy. He lost a leg due to his injuries. Kermit passed away on September 30, 1980. HENDRICKSON, Norman E. PEACETIME Norman joined the Army on October 13, 1950. He took his basic training and gunnery in Shilo, Manitoba. In the spring of 1951, he was posted to Work Point Barracks in Esquimalt, BC. There he took his Coastal Gunnery, Aircraft Gunnery, a Radar course and his Junior NCO course. In November 1953 to 1954 Norman was posted to Whitehorse, Yukon. Then, transferred to the RCAPC (Royal Canadian Army Pay Corps). In June 1954 he was posted to Fort Osborne Barracks, Winnipeg and transferred to 1st RCHA where he also took a course in the 105 MM Howitzers. He was then posted to Germany from 1957 to 1960. From 1960 to 1965, he was posted to Camp Gagetown, New Brunswick then to Winnipeg to the 1st Loc Battery. Norman did trials in Camp Shilo, Yuma, Arizona and back to Camp Shilo. He then went to Ottawa for three months. In 1968, Norman was transferred to the 3rd RCHA. In 1969, he went to Norway for three months for Arctic Express 1. After 21 years of service Norman retired on December 15, 1971 with an Honourary Discharge. He resided in Winnipeg with his wife Annette until his death in 1990.
