89 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca HEBERT, Pete WWII Pete enlisted in July 1940 and went overseas on the Earle of Athlone to land in Liverpool, England with the Lake Superior Regiment. He served in England and France. Pete came back to Canada in 1945 on the Queen Elizabeth and resided in St. Laurent, Manitoba. HEBERT, Raymond “Ray” WWII Ray enlisted on April 11, 1941 in an Infantry Regiment. He transferred to the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. Ray served in England and France. He got married in England to Betty Jones. He was wounded in France but was later returned to active service. He returned to Canada for a number of years then returned to England. HENDERSON, Robert Ernest “Bob” WWII Bob was born on August 27, 1921 in Morden, Manitoba. He joined the Canadian Army, landed in France on June 11, 1944 with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. He attained the rank of Sergeant. For his service in the liberation of France, Bob was awarded the French Legion of Honour at a ceremony at Shoal Lake, Manitoba in 2017. He fought through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany and was discharged at the end of the war. Bob went on and became a pharmacist and bought a drug store in Shoal Lake where he and his wife Ruth reside today. They had two children, a boy and a girl who were both raised in Shoal Lake. Unfortunately, his son Rick died at the young age of 51. Bob and Ruth have been active in community affairs over the years. His medals, besides the France Legion of Honour, include the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, Defence Medal, 1939-1945 War Medal, and the France and Germany Star. Bob is also a member of the Shoal Lake Royal Canadian Legion Branch 72.
