WWII Helen was born in Toronto, Ontario in August 1920 and moved with her family to Stonewall, Manitoba in 1925. She became a teacher after high school. In 1944, she enlisted in the WRCN (Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service). After basic training at HMCS Conestoga in Galt, Ontario she was transferred to HMCS Stadacona in Halifax where she worked as a confidential book corrector. After discharge in 1945 she returned to the Stonewall area and in 1946 she married Tom Croy, her husband of 66 years. Helen joined the Stonewall Royal Canadian Legion Branch 52 in 1946 and was actively involved for many years as well as being Secretary from 1987 to 1990. Helen received a Life Membership in 1990. DAVIDSON, William Cameron WWII Cameron, son of William Lewis Davidson and Lucy Mary Metcalf, was born in High Bluff, Manitoba on March 28, 1917. He enlisted in the RCAF in February 1941 at #2 Manning Depot in Brandon, Manitoba and trained in Regina, Portage la Prairie and Rivers. Early in 1943 Cameron went to North Africa with the Squadrons which were preparing the way for the Sicilian Invasion. He was navigation leader of his squadron. Cameron was reported missing on July 13, 1943. His last flight was over Messina, Italy. Cameron has no known grave and his name is inscribed on the Malta War Memorial in Malta, an island in the Mediterranean. The Davidson Peninsula in Northern Manitoba is named in honour of Flying Officer Navigator William Cameron Davidson. DeSCHATTER, Joseph WWI Joseph was born in Belgium in April 1883. He enlisted in the Belgium Rescue. He was mustard gassed but came home. He spent some time in the McKellar Hospital in Fort William. Joseph passed away on March 23, 1957.
