He enlisted in the Royal Navy and served for ten years. Then he transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy for an additional twenty years. He served on NATO Duty on the North Atlantic, on Canadian Coastal Patrol and the Cuban Blockade. Following his retirement, he joined the Canadian Naval Reserves attached to HMCS Chippawa, Winnipeg. Robin is a 28-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 18 in Carman, MB. COX-SMITH, Walter Evan WWI Walter, the son of Hugh and Christina, was born in High Bluff, Manitoba in 1894. He enlisted in the Army on March 30, 1916 in Winnipeg. He arrived in England on November 23, 1916 and was taken on strength in the 27th Overseas Battalion and by December 5, 1916 he was in the field in France. He was reported missing on May 29, 1917, after action on May 3, 1917. He was unofficially declared a Prisoner of War on June 1, 1917. On June 19, 1917, he reportedly died of his wounds whilst at Bad Langensalza POW Camp, Thuringia, Germany. He was initially buried at the POW Cemetery No. 1 Prussian Saxony however due to amalgamation, his body was moved to Plot 9, Row C, Grave 15 at Niederzwehren British Military Cemetery near Kassel, Germany. Private Walter Cox-Smith’s mother was awarded the Plaque, Scroll and the Memorial Cross. CREALOCK, Lawrence Edgar WWII Lawrence was born in 1916 and farmed in the Bagot, Manitoba area. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in September 1941. He was stationed in Defoe, Saskatchewan for about one year and was sent overseas in the spring of 1943, serving until the end of the war. Lawrence passed away in the early part of 1970.
