He enlisted at HMCS York and was sent to HMCS Montcalm for basic training. He then had A/B training at HMCS Cornwallis and at HMCS Stadacona took torpedo courses. He joined HMCS Niagara River Class Destroyer as LTO Atlantic Service Niagara decommissioned at the end of the Battle of the Atlantic. He joined HMCS Jonquiere Frigate until the end of the war. He volunteered for Pacific and he toured the PEI Gaspe Bay Region in Jonquiere. They decommissioned her at Shelmerdine, NS. Jack was demobilized at HMCS York, supported by DVA hearing loss (Veterans Independence Program). He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion St. James Branch 4. BRIDGEMAN, Ernest WWI Ernest was born in Orillia, Ontario in 1892. He eventually moved to Manitoba where he worked on a farm in the Bagot area. He joined the Army in April 1915 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. Ernest served with the 44th Battalion as a Corporal. He was sent to England, then France in May 1916 when he was transferred to the 4th Division Signals. After the war, he returned to Canada in June 1919 on the HMTS Mauretania. Ernest passed away in 1957. BRIDGES, William A. WWI William was born in Haddington, Scotland in 1880. He was a farm labourer in the Bagot, Manitoba area. William enlisted in the Army in November 1915 becoming a Lance Corporal with the 144th Battalion, Winnipeg Rifles, training at Camp Hughes in Manitoba. He had the mumps, bronchitis and tonsillitis before being sent overseas. William left Halifax for Liverpool in September 1916 on the SS Olympic. He was transferred to the 44th Battalion in April 1917 and sent to France. William was captured in August 1917 and sent to a Prisoner of War camp at Lindberg, Germany, and then was moved to Dülmen, Germany in October 1917. He was released in November 1918 and returned to Canada in April 1919. William passed away on August 30, 1936 in the RM of Portage la Prairie.
