23 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca ATTRIDGE, William Nelson WWII William, the son of Mr. Sid Attridge, served overseas with the 8th General Hospital Unit with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, CAMC during World War II. AVISON, Robert Joseph WWII Robert enlisted in the Navy in Saskatoon on June 1, 1942 at the age of nineteen. He served as Seaman with the RCNVR doing boom defense. BABCZONEK, Anatol WWII Anatol was born in Koscinki Village, Poland in 1921, to parents Gregor and Julia Babczonek. He was deported and interned by the Russians and released on amnesty. He joined the Polish Army in the USSR on September 26, 1941, served with the 8th Army in World War II, and came under British Command on August 15, 1942. He served in the Middle East from 1942 to 1944, in Italy from 1944 to 1946 and in the United Kingdom until his discharge on November 29, 1946 for immigration to Canada. He was awarded the Polish Cross of Monte Cassino, British 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal, and War Medal 1939-1945. Becoming a Canadian Citizen and Legion Member was why he always smiled when he called Canada home. He lived in Neebing, Ontario. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Slovak Branch 129 in Thunder Bay, ON for twenty years. Anatol passed away on October 2, 1990.
