Kenny of Dry River. He enlisted and trained at Baldur; receiving further training at Fackstow, England. He was two years and ten months in France in Canadian Headquarters on General Staff, as a driver. Norman married May Lee of Swan Lake. They had five children, Ralph, Oliver, Nellie, Beatrice and Eileen. KIMBER, Ron WWII Ron was born in Sheffield, England. He enlisted in Winnipeg in 1941 and trained at Brandon and served overseas in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. In August 1946, he married Grace Ridgeway. They resided in Vancouver, where he was employed as a bartender. He had one daughter, Barbara, and three sons: Art, Owen and Guy. KING, Ronald PEACETIME Ronald was born in Neelin, Manitoba the son of Charles and Anne King. In 1953 he married Blanche Simmons and they had three children: Ron, Linda and Brenda. He trained at Aylmer and Trenton, Ontario and was stationed in England, Winnipeg, BC and with the 3rd Fighter Wing in Germany and with the Bomarc Squadron at North Bay. LOCKERBY, Melvin John WWII Melvin was born in Winnipeg, the son of David Wm. and Marie Lockerby. He married Irene Cobbe of Baldur and lived in Richmond, BC after his service. They had two children, one son, Leonard, and one daughter, Mrs. R. Henwood of Toronto. He enlisted at Saskatoon on November 2, 1940 and trained at Brandon, Saskatoon, Vancouver and Newfoundland. He was discharged as Sergeant in October 1945 after two years as an Aero Engine Mechanic and three years as Diesel Fitter. After discharge, he worked on Construction Millwright and a hobby farmer with eleven acres of blueberries and some 7000 Scotch Pine trees. MACKLIN, Harold Frank WWI Harold was born in Cypress River, Manitoba on September 29, 1895, the son of William and Susan Macklin. He enlisted in Baldur in 1916 and received his training at Camp Hughes. He served abroad in England, France and Germany. He was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Baldur Branch 108. On February 10, 1926 he married Leorinda Olive Odell. They had two daughters, Muriel Irene and Ruby Eileen. Harold died in Deer Lodge on January 28, 1955 and is buried in Baldur Cemetery. MADSEN, Neils Heaton Greenwood RCMP Neils was the son of Mr. and Mrs. N. Madsen, long time Pool Elevator operator in Baldur. Neils joined the RCMP upon completion of High School. He spent most of his service time in Alberta where he resided in Westlock from 1947 to 1952; in charge of Mercoal detachment from 1952 to 1957; Lamont detachment from 1957 to 1962; Lethbridge Readers Branch until transferred to Edmonton where he passed away early in 1972. Neils and his wife Irene Mae had four children, Linda Gail, Niels Thomas, John Charles and Robert Brian. MASSON, Hugh WWII Hugh was born in Pilot Mound, Manitoba the son of Charles and Edith Masson. On April 25, 1953 he married Neetlje Van der Stoel and they had six children, Donald, Brenda, Eraine, Eric, Bruce and Calvin. Hugh enlisted at Fort Osborne in 1944 and served at various prison camps in northeastern Ontario. “Our communications were quite slow and the first I heard of the atom bomb being dropped and Japan surrendering was close to two weeks after when reading in the Free Press Prairie Farmer”. MATHERS, Robert WWII Robert, the son of John and Agnes Mathers was born in Baldur, Manitoba in March 1921. In 1941, Bob joined the Fort Garry Regiment taking his training at Fort William and Camp Borden before going overseas in 1942. Bob lived in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He and his wife had a son and a daughter. McDOUGALD, Roy O. WWII Roy was born in Elmore, Saskatchewan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan McDougald. On June 24, 1942 he married Winnifred Moores and they had a son, Allan, and a daughter, Margaret. Roy was manager of Revelstoke Lumber. He enlisted in Winnipeg with the RCAF and trained at Brandon and was stationed at Pierce, Alberta, Souris, Carberry and Calgary. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Baldur.
