Ostap on December 13, 1950. They had two children, Teri and Brenda. He enlisted in Brandon and trained at Saint-Jean, Quebec and was stationed overseas in Germany, France, Belgium, Holland and Italy and served during the Korean War. He received a ten-year Service Medal. DALZELL, Ronald Albert PEACETIME Ronald was born in Baldur, Manitoba, the son of Gordon and Violet Dalzell. He lived in BC where he was employed with the Highway Department. On January 14, 1967, he married Darlene Schuk and they had a daughter, Roxanne Louise. He enlisted at Winnipeg and trained at Calgary and Currie Barracks. DRYSDALE, Thomas “Tom” WWI Tom was one of four brothers from Glasgow, Scotland who worked as farm labourers south of Baldur, Manitoba. He enlisted with the 222nd at Baldur and went almost immediately overseas. He paid the supreme sacrifice on the battlefields of France. EMBURY, Mervyn Arthur PEACETIME Mervyn was born in Baldur, Manitoba, the son of Murray and Irene Embury. He married Peggy Sharmaine Christenson in Calgary in 1958. He enlisted in Regina in September 1965 and trained at Kingston and was stationed at Camp Borden, Nanaimo, BC and at other points in Canada. EVERETT, Francis David KOREA Francis was born in Baldur, Manitoba, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Everett. He lived in Port Clyde, NS where he was a Warrant Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces. In 1946, he married Aleta Desrochers. He enlisted in Winnipeg and trained at Chilliwack, BC, Victoria, Winnipeg, Shilo, Penhold and Barrington. He served overseas in Korea. FAVEL, William WWII William, son of Joseph and Mary Ann Favel, was born on November 21, 1920 in High Bluff, Manitoba. He enlisted with the 37th Field Battery Royal Canadian Army in Portage la Prairie and was later transferred to the Algonquin Regiment Royal Canadian Infantry Corps. He spoke both English and Cree and had attained Grade 8. Private William Favel was killed in action on March 3, 1945 in Germany serving with the 2nd Echelon 21 Army Group with the rank of Sapper. Initially buried at Xanten, Wesel, North RhineWestphalia Germany, he was re-buried in 1956 to the Nijmegen Canadian Memorial Cemetery, four miles east of Nijmegen, Holland, Grave 15 Row D Plot 14. Favel Bay in northern Manitoba is named in his honour. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the War Medal 19391945. His mother, Mrs. Mary Favel received the Memorial Cross. FINNBOGASON, Sigurdur “Siggi” WWI Siggi was born on December 15, 1881 in Iceland, the son of Finnbogi and Johanna Sigmundason. Siggi enlisted in the 61st on June 7, 1915. He attained the rank of Sergeant. He participated in the battle at Somme, Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele and was wounded twice. He returned to Canada on September 23, 1919. Siggi was employed as a store clerk in Baldur before and after the war. Later, he went to Winnipeg where he passed away. FISHER, Jack WWI Jack was born in Kingsdown, Kent, England. He was on duty at Whitehall in London with the Horse Dragoon Guards when World War I broke out and continued to serve with them in England. Previously, he had spent fourteen years with the Imperial Army in Egypt. In 1920, he married Margaret Gray in England. They had one son, Edwin (Ted) of Elm Creek and one daughter, Kathleen of Sandwich, Kent, England. Jack is deceased. FLATT, William David WWI &WWII David was born on August 31, 1898 in Winnipeg, the son of Etta M. (Playfair) and James W. Flatt. He enlisted in Kelwood, Manitoba in January 1917 and went to train in Shorncliffe, England and on to battle in France where he attained the rank of Sergeant Major. In World War II, he enlisted in Winnipeg in January 1940 where he trained at Trenton, Ontario. He was later stationed in Ottawa, Quebec City; London, England, and with the #6 Bomber Group in Yorkshire, England. Bill was released from service in August 1946 with the rank of Wing Commander. While stationed in London, England, he served as director of Education (RCAF overseas). He retired on August 31, 1968 as Commissioner, Canadian Pension Commission, Ottawa, Ontario. Bill married Grace Gerrand on January 31, 1925. They had three children, William, Catherine and James. Bill resided in Ottawa.
