He was discharged in February 1946 with rank of Captain. Fred married Patricia. BAIRD, Charles WWI Charles was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland in 1895. He enlisted in the Army in Winnipeg in October 1915. Charles served as a Gunner in England and in France with the 39 Battery, 3rd Division during World War I. Gunner Charles Baird was discharged in Montreal in June 1919. He was awarded the Military Medal and the General Service Medal. Charles passed away on February 12, 1962. BAIRD, Garnet Trevor WWII Garnet enlisted in the Navy on September 15, 1942 at Regina. He served in Canada and on the High Seas on HMCS Capilario during World War II. He was discharged on September 17, 1945. BAIRD, James William WWII James served in the Army in Canada and overseas during World War II. He was discharged on February 28, 1946. BAIRD, John Wesley WWII John served in the Air Force in Canada and overseas during World War II. He was discharged on September 15, 1948. BAKER, Alfred “Alf” WWI Alf was born in London, England moving to the RM of Argyle shortly after the turn of the century. He enlisted at Baldur where he trained, as well as at Camp Hughes. He went overseas with Col. Lightfoot’s 222nd Battalion, and serving in France with the 8th Little Black Devils. He was wounded and returned to Baldur in the spring of 1919. Alf was a jeweler in Baldur for many years. BAKER, Neil Edward WWII Neil was born in Quebec on December 15, 1920. He enlisted in the Army inWinnipeg on September 2, 1939. Neil served with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada in Canada and overseas during World War II. He was discharged in Winnipeg on September 6, 1945 at the rank of Major. He was awarded the EM and the Service Medal. Neil married Hazel and had a daughter named Carol Ann. BALDWIN, Carl WWI Carl was born in Baldur in 1896, the son of Baldwin and Gudny Baldwin. He enlisted in March 1916, trained in Portage la Prairie and went overseas in May 1917 with the 78th Battalion Winnipeg Grenadiers, CEF. He served in France, at Amiens, Arras, Cambrai and Valenciennes. He returned home in July 1919. On his return, he farmed briefly and thereafter he was employed in Glenboro as a mechanic and then went to Winnipeg where he was employed at Pritchard Engineering until he was forced to retire before he died in 1952. In 1927, he married Anna Christie. They had two children, Benedict (Winnipeg) and Donna Arason (Glenboro.) BALLARD, Leon Clyde WWII Leon served in the Army in Canada during World War II. BAMBRICK, Heber Johnson David WWII Heber was born in Montreal, Quebec on January 25, 1912. He enlisted in the Army at the British Embassy in Santiago, Chile in July 1943. He served with the Royal Engineers in Africa, England, India and Burma. Heber was discharged in London on February 8, 1947. He was awarded a Mention in Dispatches, the Atlantic Star and Clasp, Burma Star, Defence Medal and War Medal 1939-1945. BANDOLA, Dmitro “Tony” WWII Tony was born in Elma, Manitoba on July 16, 1921. He enlisted in the Army in Flin Flon on February 26, 1943 and served with CABTC. BANNERMAN, James Charles WWI James was born in Baldur, the son of George and Margaret Bannerman. He enlisted at Baldur, receiving his training in Winnipeg. He went overseas as a replacement for the 43rd Cameron Highlanders. Jim was an employee of Union Oil Co. and lived in Carmel, California. He married Elizabeth Johansen in 1929 and they had four children, Eleanor, Joyce, James G. and Arline. BANTING, Leslie WWII Leslie enlisted in the Air Force and served in Canada and overseas with the #17 SFTS, Service Flying Training Schools during World War II.
