207 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca ANDERSON, Stewart Lyon WWII Stewart was born on November 22, 1919 in Rignold, Manitoba and farmed in Bagot, Manitoba. He joined the Army on June 25, 1941. Stewart sailed from Halifax, Nova Scotia in August 1942 for Glasgow, Scotland. He was a Trooper with the 12th Manitoba Dragoons-Armoured Car Regiment serving in England, France and Holland. He was sent to France in April 1944. Stewart was killed in action on April 19, 1945 after the armoured vehicle he was in hit a land mine. Stewart is buried at the Holten Canadian War Cemetery in Holland and acknowledged at the Hillside Cemetery in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. The Memorial Cross was presented to family. ANDRONYK, Sophie WWII Sophie was born in Roblin, Manitoba in 1926. She enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps and served with the 103rd CABTC in Canada. She was a member of the Flin Flon Royal Canadian Legion Branch 73. ANDRONYK, Stephen WWII Stephen was born in Roblin, Manitoba on June 14, 1921. He enlisted during World War II with the 1st Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and served overseas. Lance Corporal Stephen Andronyk was killed in action on August 9, 1944. ANGER, William A. WWI William was born in London, England in 1891. He enlisted in the Army and served in England during World War I as Private. He was a member of the Flin Flon Royal Canadian Legion Branch 73. ARMER, Palmer L. WWII Palmer was born in 1922 in the United States. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served overseas and in Canada during World War II as Leading Aircraftman. He was a member of the Flin Flon Royal Canadian Legion Branch 73. ARMSTRONG, George A. WWII George was born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba in 1916. He enlisted in the Air Force during World War II and served as Corporal in Canada. George was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 73 in Flin Flon. ARMSTRONG, Ivan H. WWII Ivan was born in Craik, Saskatchewan in 1922. He enlisted in the Army and served with the 14th Canadian Tank Regiment during World War II in Europe as Trooper. Ivan was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 73 in Flin Flon. He passed away in 1952. ARMSWORTHY, Covert W. WWII Covert was born in Truro, Nova Scotia in 1926. He enlisted in the Army and served during World War II in Canada. He was discharged in 1943 because he was underage. Covert was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Flin Flon Branch 73. ARMSWORTHY, Doreen M. WWII Doreen was born in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1924. She enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps and served in Canada during World War II as Private. Doreen was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Flin Flon Branch 73. ARNASON, Paul WWI Corporal Paul Arnason, late of Langruth, Manitoba was born on December 9, 1894 in Bru P.O., Manitoba. He enlisted on June 1, 1918 with the Fort Garry Horse Regiment and was sent overseas almost immediately, returning to Canada in June 1919. He married Bertha Kaprasiuson and farmed the remainder of his life in Langruth. They had four children, Hjortur and Norman John on the home farm, Kristjan in Winnipeg and Olivia in London, Ontario. Paul passed away in February 1968. ARNOLD, William J. WWI &WWII William was born in Baldur, Manitoba on February 11, 1898, the son of William and Janet Arnold. In World War I, Arnold enlisted in Winnipeg in February 1916; trained at Camp Hughes in 1916 with the 203rd Battalion CEF and in France with the 52nd Battalion where he served from 1917 to 1919. In World War II, Dr. Arnold enlisted in the Royal Canadian Dental Corps in June 1941. He was discharged with the rank of Major in August 1945. On December 22, 1924 he married Mary E. Gemmill (Pilot Mound). They had four children, Betty J. (Aitken), Mary Marguerite (Mitchell), William S. and John G. Dr. and Mrs. Arnold resided in St. James, Manitoba. ASELTINE, Roy W. WWII Roy was born in Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan in 1917. He enlisted in the Army with the Royal Canadian Engineers, 20th Field Company and served as a Sergeant in World War II. Roy was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Flin Flon Branch 73.
