201 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca WRIGHT, Albert Ernest WWI &WWII Albert was born on August 15, 1889 in Kenora, Ontario, farming in the Lavenham, Manitoba area. He enlisted in the Army on December 12, 1916 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba initially with the 251st Battalion. Albert arrived in England on October 17, 1917. He was then transferred to the 18th Reserve Battalion, then to the 44th Battalion. Albert served in England, France and Belgium. He was awarded the British War Medal, Victory Medal and Class “A” Badge. He was discharged on July 25, 1919 in Quebec. Albert re-enlisted in the Army on November 28, 1941 in Winnipeg. He served at 7 Prisoner of War and Internment Camps in Canada as a guard. He was discharged on August 18, 1945. Albert died on September 12, 1974. WRIGHT, Alex Ross WWI Alex was born on November 4, 1898 in Thornbury, Ontario and farmed in the Bagot, Manitoba area. He served with the 18th Mounted Rifles for two years. Alex enlisted in the Army on December 7, 1915 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba with the 226th Battalion. He was promoted to Corporal on December 15, 1916, the same day he sailed from Halifax on the SS Olympic, arriving in England on December 28. Alex was killed in action on June 28, 1917 on Rouen, France at the Battle of Vimy Ridge. He is buried at the La Chaudiere Military Cemetery in France. Alex was awarded the Memorial Cross posthumously. YULE, Alex WWII Alex was born in Newdale, Manitoba in 1917. He served with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in England, Italy and France during World War II. He was a member of Brandon Royal Canadian Legion Branch 3 for twenty years. Alex passed away in 2003.
