He enlisted in the British Royal Air Force and served during Peacetime as Air Defence Operator in Germany from 1957 to 1960. Robert has been a member of Winnipeg Beach Royal Canadian Legion Branch 61 for 25 years. TYSHKOSKI (TYLER), Leopold William “Nap”“Leo” WWII Leo was born in Malonton, Manitoba in 1918. He served in World War II with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in England, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Canada. He earned the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal and 60th Diamond Jubilee Medal. He was discharged from the Army in April 1946. He then returned to Winnipeg Beach and co-owned a grocery store with Comrade Ben Russin. Years later, he owned a successful business (Beachside General Store) with his father, Louis. He joined the Winnipeg Beach Royal Canadian Legion Branch 61 in 1950. For 25 years, he served as Secretary/Treasurer of Branch 61 and as their faithful weekly bingo caller. He married Kay Juzyk and they had four children together. His family was his priority. Leo passed away in 1999. VAUGHAN, Cyrus WWI Cyrus was born in Delhi, Ontario on April 28, 1887. He served as a chauffeur for Cotter Brothers for five years in Winnipeg. Cyrus served with the 100th Grenadiers as well as the 39th Norfolk Rifles for two years before the war. He enlisted in the Army in Winnipeg on July 3, 1915 with the 78th Battalion. Cyrus left Halifax on May 20, 1916 on the SS Empress of Britain arriving in England on May 30. He left Southampton, England on August 12, 1916 arriving in Havre, France on August 13. Cyrus received a gunshot wound to the left thigh and left arm on January 19, 1917 being discharged on January 24. He was hospitalized with the mumps from March 31 to April 19, 1917. Cyrus was promoted to Lance Corporal on May 15, 1917. He was killed in action on July 1, 1917 in Rouen, France. He was awarded the Memorial Cross posthumously. Cyrus is buried at the La Chaudiere Military Cemetery on the outskirts of Vimy, France.
