167 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca PRINGLE, Andrew “Andy” WWI Andrew enlisted in 1914 with the 23rd Battalion. He went overseas in April 1915 serving in England and France. He was transferred to 1st Company Engineers and was attached to the Cavalry. His horse was named Nell. Andy thought a lot of that horse. They went through a lot together. He used to tell that when he had leave he would ride Nell into Paris or whatever town was close. He would groundtie her and no one dared to touch her. Later, when the paddy wagon came to pick up those who had over celebrated, Nell would walk beside the wagon with her nose on Andy’s chest. Andy was discharged in 1918. He tried unsuccessfully to re-enlist early in World War II. He then went to British Columbia where he spent the remainder of his life on Vancouver Island. He passed away in 1985. PRUS, Peter “Pete” WWII Pete enlisted on January 3, 1940 and served in Canada. Due to medical reasons he received his discharge on April 22, 1940. Pete and his wife, Ann, resided on the family farm, in Fisherton. Both are now deceased. PRUS, Steve WWII Steve enlisted in the Canadian Provost Corps in 1942. He served overseas in England during World War II and was married in England. Steve was discharged in 1947 and resided in Vancouver, British Columbia.
