161 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca PARK, William Jr. “Bill” WWII Bill was born in 1908 in Scotland and came to Canada at the age of thirteen with his parents. They settled in the Elphinstone and then the Shoal Lake District. Bill married Violet Brooks on December 24, 1931 and had two daughters Jacqueline and Marcia. He joined the Army on September 25, 1940 first with the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders as a cook then with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in the mortar platoon. He served in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany being discharged on January 17, 1946. He returned to his family and they spent the rest of their lives in the Shoal Lake area, where he was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, 1939-1945 War Medal, the Defence Medal and the France and Germany Star. Bill passed away in 1980. PARKER-OXLEY, Joseph N. WWII Joseph was born in England in 1909. He served in the Royal Air Force during World War II in India with Bomber Command. He was an eightyear member of The Royal Canadian Legion Winnipeg Beach Branch 61. Joseph passed away in 1995. PAUL, Alexander WWI Alexander was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1892 and farmed in the Bagot, Manitoba area. He served with the Royal Engineers for three years and seven months. Alexander enlisted in September 1918 serving in France with the 4th Army Canadian Engineers as a driver. After the war he sailed to Halifax on the SS Belgic. Alexander was discharged on May 1, 1919.
