121 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca LAWTON, Dan WWII Dan was born in Bridgend, Wales in 1922 and worked on the family farm in the Bagot, Manitoba area. He joined the Army in March 1941, training in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba with 100th Basic Unit for eighteen months. Dan was appointed an instructor in Portage la Prairie because of previous experience. He trained in Shilo, Manitoba then trained at the Advanced Training Centre in Winnipeg. Dan trained and then instructed in Mountain Warfare, becoming Captain at Victoria, British Columbia. He graduated at the Officer Training School in August 1943. Dan served in England, Holland and Germany and was discharged in February 1946. LAWTON, Elizabeth “Betty” WWII Betty was raised on a farm in the Bagot, Manitoba area. She joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. She trained in Ottawa and Kitchener, Ontario in the Postal Corps. LAWTON, John Thomas WWI &WWII John was born in England in 1889 and was raised on the family farm in the Bagot, Manitoba area. He served with the British Army in World War I with the Kings Liverpool Regiment and the Royal Army Medical Corps. He joined the Canadian Army in World War II and was with the Military Police in Portage la Prairie and Shilo, Manitoba. John passed away in 1963.
