He took basic training at the Fort Garry Basic Training Centre at the University of Manitoba. He received advance training at Camp Shilo, then took an Infantry Signals Course in Barriefield, Ontario. He enlisted for the Pacific Volunteers after VE Day and was transferred to Dundurn, Saskatchewan then back to Winnipeg in 1945. From October 1945 until February 1946 he attended Khaki College in Winnipeg. He was transferred back to Shilo until May 1946 when he received his discharge. HOPGOOD, Alfred Sr. BOERWAR &WWI Alfred was born in England on June 30, 1877. He served in the British Imperial Army for 21 years, joining at the age of fourteen. He was in active service in both the Boer War and World War I. He lived near his daughter in British Columbia for the last years of his life. HOPGOOD, Thomas WWII Sapper Tom Hopgood enlisted on May 31, 1940 in the 1st Corps Field Park Company RCE (Royal Canadian Engineers). He served in England but was unable to meet medical standards so was returned to Canada. Tom received his discharge on May 3, 1943.
