57 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca DUCHESNEAU, W. Fred WWI Fred was born in 1892 in Finch, Manitoba. He joined the 45th Battalion during World War I and served in France with the 49th Edmonton Battalion. He fought in the 3rd Battle of Ypres, at the Somme, Vimy and Hill 70. Fred died in 1959. DUNN, Melvin WWII Melvin was born in 1914. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served in Europe during World War II, most notably, at Dieppe. Melvin has passed away and was laid to rest in St. James, Manitoba. EASTWOOD, Edgar A. WWI Edgar joined the Army during World War I and served with the 198th Winnipeg Regiment and the 18th Reserve Battalion. His last engagement was at Amiens where he was shot and later died at Le Havre Hospital in 1918. EADY, Douglas H. WWII Douglas was born in 1925 in Fort William, Manitoba. He enlisted on September 30, 1942 with # 10 DD Canadian Infantry Corps, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, and served 30 months in Canada and 13 months in the United Kingdom, Italy and northwest Europe. Douglas was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. He was discharged in Winnipeg on March 29, 1946. Douglas was a member of Ear Falls Legion Branch 238 before he passed away in 1984.
