91 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca HORRILL, Kenneth Alvin “Ken” WWII Ken was born on August 30, 1924 in the Mylar district of Cartwright, Manitoba. He joined the Army at the age of 18 and served in Holland and Italy with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry from 1942-45. He married Beatrice Erickson in April 1948 and they had five children. Ken passed away on May 8, 1987. HOWARD, Arthur G. WWII Arthur was born in 1914 in Crystal City, Manitoba. On September 18, 1939 at Brandon, Manitoba, Arthur and his older brother Fred joined the 71st Battery of the Royal Canadian Artillery. They went overseas to Borden, England in January 1940, where they trained with the 1st Canadian Corps. They saw five and a half years service with the 8thArmy in North Africa, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. Arthur was discharged on August 10, 1945 with the rank of Lance Bombardier. He received the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. In England in 1942, Arthur married Beryl Flaxman who was in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. She joined him on the farm in April 1946 and they raised three children there. They both became Life Members of Crystal City Legion Branch 35. Arthur died in 1998. HOWORTH, Ed A. WWII Ed was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan in 1924. He served in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve in the North Atlantic, South Atlantic, Pacific North Sea, Mediterranean and Canada. Ed has been a member of Fort Garry Legion Branch 90 for more than twenty-seven years. HOWE, Marg WWII Marg enlisted in the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service in February 1943 and served in general duty service in Canada and the British Isles until her discharge in February 1946. She was a member of Russell Legion Branch 159. Marg is deceased.
