He enlisted in Chelsea in October 1915 and served as a driver in the Royal Army Service Corps in France, Greece and Bulgaria. Charles was discharged at the Crystal Palace in March 1919. He received the War Medal and the Victory Medal. A member of Russell Legion Branch 159, Charles died in February 1961. HOGUE, Orille A. WWII Orille was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba in 1922. He enlisted in the Canadian Army and went overseas as a radio operator. He served with the Lake Superior Regiment in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. He was wounded on the Leopold Canal in Belgium on September 14, 1944, then was sent to England to recuperate. In March 1945, he rejoined the same Company in Germany after which he was wounded again a month later on April 17 on the Kuston Canal. Orille ended the war in a British Army Hospital in Belgium and returned home in March 1946. He was discharged in early April. Orille has been a member of Portage la Prairie Legion Branch 65 for thirty-five years. HORNER, Thomas Leslie “Les” WWII Les was born in 1914 in Miniota, Manitoba and he worked in several lumber yards in southern Manitoba before the war. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force from June 25, 1942 until March 1, 1946, when he was honourably released and transferred to the Reserve General Section Class “E”. He was posted to Trenton, ON and Brandon, MB as Aircraftman 2 and to Calgary, AB, Gander and Flatrock, NL, and Plymouth, MB as Leading Aircraftman. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the War Medal 1939-45, and the Defence Medal. In 1950, Les married Lillian Ellerington and they had two daughters. He worked for the Miniota Co-op, sold life insurance and was salesman for Baker Manufacturing of Winnipeg. He lived in Miniota and was a member of Miniota Legion Branch 66 for thirty-five years before he died in 1991. HONEY, William Lawrence WWII William was born in 1923 in the Rural Municipality of Russell. He enlisted in Winnipeg in 1942 and was discharged in 1945 in Dartmouth. William served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in England. He was a member of Russell Legion Branch 159 until he died in 2010.
