83 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca HART, Alvin R. WWI Alvin was born in 1891 in Wingham, Ontario. In Toronto in 1917, he enlisted with the Canadian Mounted Rifles and served in Canada then in France and Belgium with the 102nd Battery. Wounded in France at Magnicourt in July 1918, Private Hart spent over half a year in hospitals in France and in the United Kingdom. He received a Service Medal and was discharged in Toronto in 1919. Alvin passed away in 1980. HARTWIG, Walter E. WWII Walter was born in Emerson, Manitoba and he passed away in 1990. He joined the Army and served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in Canada, Britain and Northwest Europe. Walter was a Life Member of Fort Garry Legion Branch 90. HASKETT, Lenard S. WWII Lenard was born in Virden, Manitoba in 1923. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada and England during WWII. He worked on Halifax and Lancaster aircraft bombers at #7 Paulson Bombing and Gunnery in Dauphin, Manitoba, as well as in England at #6 Group Bombing Command. Lenard has been a member of Souris Legion Branch 60 for more than forty-three years. HARZING, Nicholas Antonius PEACETIME Nicholas was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1982. He served as a Private with the 1st Service Battalion from 2008 after doing his basic training in St. Jean, Quebec. Nicholas is now stationed at Canadian Forces Base Edmonton.
