He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served on a mine sweeper in the North Atlantic during World War II. Albert was a member of Selkirk Legion Branch 42 and he died on September 3, 2001. HARMAN, Ernest F. WWII Ernest was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1920. He served in the Army with the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery in Canada, England, Italy and Northwest Europe. Ernest was a member of Elmwood Legion Branch 9 for thirty-nine years before he died in 2008. HARRHY, Clifford WWI Clifford was born in 1879 in Abergavenny, England and moved to Canada in the early 1900s. He enlisted with the Canadian Engineers in Winnipeg on November 11, 1915, and was with the 2nd Division and the 90th Battalion. Before his discharge in 1919, he served with the Royal Canadian Signal Corps in France, as well as with the Army of Occupation in Germany. Clifford returned to his wife and family in Ashern and in 1921, his only child was born. A carpenter by trade and running a small farm, he and the local veterans organized and applied for a charter for Branch 67 of The Royal Canadian Legion in 1927 while their wives formed a Ladies Auxiliary. He took on the role of recruiting officer for the district toward the war effort for WWII. Clifford was a member of Ashern Legion Branch 57 for fifty years and passed away at Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg on December 4, 1977. HARPMAN, Len WWII Len was born in 1920 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He joined the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals and served in Canada, England, Sicily, and Northwest Europe. He was awarded the Star of Italy, the War Medal 1939-45, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the 1939-45 Star, the Defence Medal, and the Bar with Maple Leaf. After the war, he was active in the Reserves, Anti-Craft Operation Room and the Dental Corps. Len was a Life Member of Henderson Highway Legion Branch 215. He was also President of the Beauséjour Legion, 1st Vice President, Poppy Chair and Service Officer of 215 Legion as well as Zone 61 Commander and District 6 Commander. Len was very knowledgeable about the structure of The Legion and was a frequent speaker at events and various schools. He passed away in 2009.
