75 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca GREAVES, Albert Charles “Tom” WWII Tom was born in Osaguan, Ontario in 1926. He joined the World War II war effort on January 4, 1945 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After a brief time there, he was posted to Camp Borden, Ontario, where he trained and served as an equipment operator and POW guard for the German soldiers that were held there. During the Fall of 1945, Tom took farm leave to assist with the harvest back home, after which he returned to Camp Borden. Later that year, as the war was coming to an end, he received his discharge papers and returned to Souris, where he resided until his death in 1979. Tom was a member of Souris Legion Branch 60 for a number of years. GREENWOOD, Edwin W. WWII Edwin was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1923. He served in the Army in Canada, Britain, Italy and Africa. Edwin was a member of Fort Garry Legion Branch 90 for thirty-seven years before he passed away in 2000. HAINSTOCK, R. E. WWII R. E. Hainstock enlisted in the Royal Canadian Engineers in Winnipeg in July 1940 and was discharged there in July 1946. After having served in Canada, England, France, Holland, Belgium, and Germany, Staff Sergeant Hainstock received the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, and the Defence Medal. He has been a member of Russell Legion Branch 159. HAINSTOCK, B. WWII B. Hainstock joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in April 1943 in Regina and was discharged there in June 1946. Corporal Hainstock served in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Continental Europe and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the Victory Medal. She has been a member of Russell Legion Branch 159.
