49 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca COHOE, George Elmer Kennedy WWII George was born in 1912 in Pilot Mound, Manitoba. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Winnipeg on May 4, 1940 and served in Canada. As an instructor from March 1941 to January 1943, he flew a variety of aircraft, such as the Tiger Moth, Harvard, Anson, Yale, Crane, Norseman, Beach Craft, Shark, Canso “A”, Stranraer and Catalin. From May 1943, he flew with #7 (BR) Squadron off the West Coast. His last sortie was June 1944, when he was re-assigned to instructional duties. George was lauded for his extremely high degree of flying and instructional ability, setting an example deserving of high praise. George was awarded the Air Force Cross on August 11, 1945. He was a member of Pilot Mound Legion Branch 62 for twenty-seven years before he died in 1973. COLEMAN, William J. WWII William was born in Waskada, Manitoba in 1920. During WWII, he joined the Army and served with Lord Strathcona Horse in Canada, England, Italy, and Northwest Europe. He is a Life Member of Melita Legion Branch 127. CORNISH, Arnold G. PEACETIME Arnold was born in McGivney, New Brunswick in 1935. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served with No. 416 Fighter Squadron in Canada at Ontario’s Trenton Training Command and in North Bay, as well as in England at Langar and in Chatham, New Brunswick. Arnold was awarded the NATO Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration with Bar. He has been a member of Leaf Rapids Legion Branch 251 for more than twenty years. CONNOLLY, Bernard A. KOREA Bernard was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1931. He joined the Army and did his basic training in Shilo, Manitoba and Fort Lewis, Washington, USA. Bernard served as a Gunner in the Korean Special Force from August 1950 in the 2nd Field Regiment of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery before departing from Seattle, Washington for Korea in April 1951. Bernard returned to Vancouver, BC in May 1952. He has been a member of Selkirk Legion Branch 42 for over thirty-six years.
