He enlisted in the Army in Winnipeg in December 1916 and served in England and France with the 1st Canadian Engineers. He was wounded in France and discharged in January 1919. Andrew was a construction contractor, a farmer and town policeman most of his life. He was a member of Arborfield Legion Branch 203 in Saskatchewan. He died in Arborfield in 1952 and is buried in Moose Range Cemetery in Saskatchewan. BLACKBURN, Hugh McIntyre WWI Hugh was born and raised at Gilbert Plains, Manitoba, as well as in Pilot Mound, MB. He enlisted in the Fall of 1915 and was transferred to the 144th Battalion in 1916 and went overseas. He served in France for ten months with the 16th Brigade. Hugh was taken prisoner on August 22, 1917, where he remained for 16 months. He weighed 92 lbs. when he came home. He moved to Prince George, British Columbia in 1920, where he farmed with his family. Hugh was a member of Prince George Legion Branch 43. He died there in 1967. BLACKBURN, William George WWI George was born in Pilot Mound, Manitoba in 1883. He enlisted with the 1st Canadian Engineers on June 8, 1916 and served as a Corporal during WWI in England, France, Belgium, and Germany until his discharge in 1919. George farmed for a short time, was a carpenter and contractor for most of his life, and was a member of Pilot Mound Legion Branch 62 for more than twenty-five years. He died on August 18, 1952 and is buried at Pilot Mound. BLACKBURN, Matthew James “Jim” WWI Jim was born in Pilot Mound, Manitoba in 1891. He enlisted with the 1st Canadian Engineers in Winnipeg in 1916 and served as a Corporal in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. Discharged in 1919, Jim was awarded the Military Medal for Bravery. Jim was a carpenter, a contractor and farmer most of his life and was a member of Arborfield Legion Branch 203 and its Past President from 1954-55. He was also a member of Pilot Mound Legion Branch 62. Matthew passed away in 1979 in Pilot Mound and was buried in Moose Range Cemetery in Saskatchewan.
