He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada and England during World War II. Carl has been a member of Selkirk Legion Branch 42 for more than twenty years. WILSON, Mary WWII Mary was born in 1917 in Pilot Mound, Manitoba. She joined the Canadian Navy and served in a nursing unit in Moncton, New Brunswick and Victoria, British Columbia. Mary passed away in 2007. WINRAM, James Clark “Chuck” WWI Chuck was born in 1895 in Manitou, Manitoba. He joined the Canadian Army and served with the 8th Battalion in France and England. Chuck was a member of Pilot Mound Legion Branch 62 for more than fifty years before he passed away in 1980. WILSON, Melville Earl WWII Melville was born in Consul, Saskatchewan in 1918. He joined theArmy on February 1, 1941 and took truck driver training at Camp Borden, Ontario before sailing on theSterlingCastle fromHalifax to Greenock, Scotland. He went on to Borden Camp, England, where he met Mabel Darvill, a member of theAuxiliary Territorial Service, whom he married on June 3, 1944. After eight months, he was transferred to the Scouts and Snipers with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry andsent to Italy. He thenserved inLeghornandMarseille, France, thenAntwerp, Belgium, followed by HarrlemandDelshen, Holland until the end of thewar. Melvillewent back toAldershot, England and was loaded on the NewAmsterdam with 1,800 troops enroute for Halifax. He then rode the train to Winnipeg and was home in Napinka on July 3, 1945. Melville was a member of Souris Legion Branch 60 before he died in 2008.
