Barker served in France, the United Kingdom, and Germany with the 13th Field Regiment from June 1940 to September 1945. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the France and Germany Star, and the Battle of Britain Medal. E. Barker has been a member of Russell Legion Branch 159. BARTLETT, Charlie WWII Charlie Bartlett served during World War II. BEDFORD, Gordon W. WWII Gordon was born in 1922 in Dauphin, Manitoba. In 1940, he enlisted in the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, then transferred to the Air Force in 1941 and served with 426 Squadron. Flight Lieutenant Bedford engaged in many missions, survived three separate Lancaster crashes, and endured the last eleven months of WWII as a POW in Germany before returning to Canada. He joined Dauphin Legion Branch 20 in 1946, the executive in 1958, and held many positions, including President for two separate stints. A Life Membership was awarded to him in 1978 and two years later, he began a six-year term as District Commander on the Provincial Council. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in 1991 and the Commemorative Medal in 1993. He has been a Legion member for more than sixty-four years and is still active today. BATTY, Herbert C. WWI Herbert was born in Hartney, Manitoba in 1892. He enlisted in the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles and served in France during WWI. Wounded in 1916, he was a POW for two and a half years, spending time in German hospitals at Julich, Halle, Wittenburg, Cologne, Frankfort, and Courtrai. He was a Life Member of Hartley Legion Branch 26 before he died in 1969.
