He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at age 15 by using his brother’s identification. He served as navigator in the Royal Air Training Plan in Canada and was severely injured in an accidental crash. He left the Air Force in 1945 and took a degree in biology under the available assistance from the Air Force. Robert died in 2005. SIMMS, George E. WWI George was born in Russell, Manitoba in 1890. He enlisted in the Army in February 1916 and served as a Private with the 3rd Engineers in Belgium, France, and Germany. He was discharged in Winnipeg in May 1919. George was a member of Russell Legion Branch 159. SIMPSON, Hugh M. WWII Hugh enlisted in the Army in Winnipeg in May 1940 and was discharged there in February 1946. He served in Canada, England and Italy with 1 LAAR CA and 3 CA Provost. Lance Corporal Simpson received the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Italy Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Victory Medal, and the Defence Medal. He has been a member of Russell Legion Branch 159. SIMPSON, Dorothea “Dot” WWII Dot was born in Silverton, Manitoba in 1926. She enlisted in Winnipeg in March 1944 and served with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in Canada during WWII. Sergeant Simpson was discharged in August 1946 in Winnipeg. Dot was a member of Russell Legion Branch 159 before she passed away in 2008.
