He enlisted in the Canadian Army in Brandon, Manitoba on March 24, 1941 and served in England, North Africa, Naples, Italy, and on the Adriatic side of Italy-Ravenna during WWII. He crossed over to Florence, then took a boat to France and Holland (Appledorf) before going home. Stanley was awarded the War Medal 1939-45, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Defence Medal, the France and Germany Star, the Italy Star, and the 1939-45 Star. He was a member of Portage la Prairie Legion Branch 65 for more than fifty years before he passed away in October 2008. PRUDEN, Douglas Alexander WWII Douglas was born in Selkirk, Manitoba in 1921. He enlisted in the Army on January 27, 1942 and served as a Private, firing machine guns and heavy artillery, with the 18th Reconnaissance (Manitoba) Regiment on the Front Lines in the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean and Continental Europe. Discharged on November 30, 1945, he was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Italy Star, the Defence Medal, the King George Medal 1939-45 and the Maple Leaf Bar. Douglas was a member of Winnipeg’s St. James Legion Branch 4 and he died in 1991. PRUDEN, Robert Curtis WWI Robert was born in 1894 in Selkirk, Manitoba, where he enlisted with the 108th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) on February 15, 1916. He left Halifax on February 18, 1918 and arrived in Liverpool, England on April 3, where he served as a Private with the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles in France for five months and suffered wounds to the chest and forearm. On October 4, 1918, he was taken to Bramshott, England, where he remained until December 4, 1918. He then served with the 250th Battalion CEF and was discharged from duty on January 31, 1919. Robert was a Member of Selkirk Legion Branch 42 and he died in 1952. PRUDEN, Jean H. A. WWII Jean was born in 1924 in Poplar Park, Manitoba. He enlisted in the Army and served in Canada during World War II. Jean was a member of Selkirk Legion Branch 42 for seventeen years. He died in 2007.
