He joined the Army and served as a Master Corporal with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and the Loyal Edmonton Regiment in Former Yugoslavia and Afghanistan. PARK, Allen R. “Sparky” WWII Sparky was born in 1925 in Carman, Manitoba. He joined the Army and served as a Paratrooper with the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion and was stationed in England. He also fought in Germany, Holland, and France. Sparky was a member of Carman Legion Branch 18. He died in 2002. PASHE, Michael WWII Michael was born at the Old Sioux Village on December 28, 1925 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. He was a residential school survivor. Michael joined the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and served from July 19, 1944 to May 4, 1946 in Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Germany during WWII. Michael was awarded the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-45. He married Elsie Paul and they raised nine children. Michael, Chief of Dakota Tipi in the early 1980s, was greatly respected as an Elder in his community, leaving a legacy of courage, dedication and knowledge that he dedicated to his country and his people. Michael died in 2004. PARKE, Victor Edward WWII Victor was born in Thalberg, Manitoba on October 21, 1921. After finishing school in Thalberg, he moved to Toronto, Ontario to work. Victor was still a teenager when he joined the Armed Forces with the Royal Regiment of Canada. His four years of service moved him from Canada to England, France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. After repatriation, he returned to Thalberg, where he farmed and raised a family. He was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Beauséjour, Manitoba, filling many positions in Branch #132 from committee member to President. He also served as trustee for the Thalberg School. Private Parke received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the 1939-45 War Medal, the Defence Medal, the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, and the Normandy and Victory Medals. He died on March 12, 1997.
