161 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca MURCHISON, Thomas Gordon WWII, SPECIAL DUTY AREA, KOREA & PEACETIME Thomas was born in Dominion City, Manitoba in 1919 and passed away in 1994. He served with the Manitoba Dragoons, Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, in Canada, England and Northwest Europe. Thomas was a member of Elmwood Legion Branch 9 for about five years. MURRAY, Charles WWII Charles was born in Scotland in 1921 and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba when he was 6 years old. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada and Britain during World War II. Charles was a member of Fort Garry Legion Branch 90 for fifty years before he died in 2002. MURRAY, Lawrence L. KOREA Lawrence was born at Port Arthur, Ontario (now Thunder Bay) in December 1931. His early education was in Tecumseh, Ontario, then the family moved to Rainy River where he completed his education. In 1949, at the age of 18, he enlisted in Winnipeg with the Canadian Army’s 1st Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He took his basic training at Camp Borden, Ontario and his advanced training in Calgary, Alberta. He received his paratroopers’ wings after completing his Airborne training at Rivers, Manitoba and also took part in Army exercise Sweet Briar in the Yukon and Northwest Territories in 1950. On September 21, 1951, he sailed from Seattle, Washington and landed at Pusan, Korea on October 6, 1951. My mid-October, he was in the battlefield. Private Murray was killed in Korea on March 26, 1952 at age 20. He was buried in the Pusan United Nations Memorial Cemetery. MURRAY, Charles C. G. WWII Charles was born in 1925 in Carman, Manitoba. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada during World War II. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Charles was a member of Carman Legion Branch 18 for twenty-seven years. He died in 2008.
