He joined the Army in August 1940 and served with the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) in Canada, Britain and Italy. In 1941, in Listowel, he was the pianist in a dance orchestra formed by fellow Straths and they later earned some extra cash playing at English dance halls. Frank suffered a hand injury at the Melfa River and his piano playing days were never the same. He was discharged in Winnipeg in August 1945. Frank was a member of Fort Garry Legion Branch 90 for five years. He died in 1995 and is buried in the Veterans’ section of the Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg. McINTOSH, J. G. WWII J. G. McIntosh enlisted in the Army in Winnipeg in September 1939 and was discharged there in November 1945 after serving with the 19th Field Battery, 3rd Field Regiment, in Sicily, Italy, and Holland during WWII. Staff Sergeant McIntosh was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the Northwest Europe Star, the Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. He has been a member of Russell Legion Branch 159. McKAY, Frank Leslie WWII Frank was born in 1911 in Pilot Mound, Manitoba. He joined the Canadian Army and served with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders in England, France, and Holland during WWII. Frank was a Life Member of Pilot Mound Legion Branch 62 for fifty-eight years. He died in 2003. McINTYRE, Charles W. WWI Charles was born in 1896 in Russell, Manitoba. He joined the Army in Russell on March 6, 1916 and served with the 107th – 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles in France and Belgium. Private McIntyre was discharged in Toronto on March 21, 1919 and received a Service Medal. He was a member of Russell Legion Branch 159 before he died in 1981.
