127 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca MARTIN, David D. WWII David was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1918 and was raised in Poplar Point, Manitoba. He served in the Army with the First Special Services in Canada, Aleutians, Italy and Northwest Europe. David was a member of Elmwood Legion Branch 9 before he died in 1991. MARTIN, Ignatius WWII Ignatius was born in Kingsbridge, Ontario in 1918. He enlisted in the Army and served in Canada, England, France, Germany and Northwest Europe. Ignatius was a member of Reddit Legion Branch 82 for a number of years before his death in 2004. MARTINDALE, Wilfred John WWII Wilfred was born in Windy Gates, Manitoba in 1924. He joined the Black Watch at seventeen, was soon sent overseas, and later transferred to the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, where a young man from home would be his Sergeant. He served in Canada, England, Belgium, Holland, France and Germany. Wilfred received the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the King George VI Medal. A member of Morden Legion Branch 11 for fifty-eight years, Wilfred passed away in 2003. MARTINDALE, Lloyd C. WWII Lloyd was born in Windy Gates, Manitoba in 1920. He joined the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in 1939 and served in Canada, Italy, England and Northwest Europe. In July 1940, Lloyd was sent to Sicily, where he was wounded three years later, on December 7, 1943. It wasn’t until they returned to pick up the dead that they realized he was still alive. He spent many months recovering in English and French hospitals. While in England, Lloyd married Anne Goldsmith and returned to Canada. They had 4 children but Anne returned to England with the children after they divorced. He later married Bernice Wright of Maryfield, SK, with whom he had three daughters and they lived in Winnipeg. Lloyd was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the King George VI Medal, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. He was a member of Winnipeg Legion Branch 4 for forty-five years at the time of this death in 1990.
