119 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca LYONS, Thomas G. WWII Thomas was born in Brandon, Manitoba in 1924. He joined the Army and served with the Black Watch and ADM H.G. Canadian Army in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe. He was a member of Brandon Legion Branch 3 before he passed away in 1999. MacBETH, Stephen Gilbert “Steve” RCMP Steve was born in Digby, Nova Scotia in 1945. He joined the RCMP in 1966 and was the last troop to train with the horses. His first posting was with the Brandon detachment after which he was sent to Shoal Lake, where he met his wife, Lois McKinnon. He was transferred back to Brandon to Highway Patrol then was transferred in 1972 to Lac Du Bonnet, where his daughter Amanda was born in 1973. He was transferred to Ottawa a year later, and while there, was a member of the newly-formed Tactical Troop. Over his service, Sergeant MacBeth did extra security guarding various celebrities, including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Phillip, the Pope, and Governor General Shrier. From 1980-86, Steve was stationed at Winnipeg HQ. He retired in 1986 to Birtle, Manitoba, where he passed away in April 2007. He was a member of Birtle Legion Branch 55 from 1996-2008. MADIGAN, Egmond W. WWI Egmond was born in 1889 in Birmingham, England. He joined the Canadian Army and served in France with Fort Garry Horse during World War I. Egmond was a member of West Kildonan Legion Branch 30 for ten years and he died in 1960. MacDONALD, Alex P. WWI Alex was born in 1893 at Lake Dore, Ontario. He joined the Army and served with the Cameron Highlanders in France and Belgium during WWI. Alex was a Life Member of Hartney Legion Branch 26.
