Lockwood joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Regina in July 1941 and served in England, India and Burma. Flight Lieutenant Lockwood received the 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He was discharged in Winnipeg in January 1946 and has been a member of Russell Legion Branch 159. LONEY, Bessie WWII Bessie was born in 1926 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She enlisted with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in Winnipeg in 1942 and served in Canada at the A3 Canadian Artillery Training Centre. Sergeant Loney was discharged in 1945 in Winnipeg. She has been a member of Russell Legion Branch 159. LONGNEY, Leonard Victor WWII Leonard was born in Morden, Manitoba in 1922 and was raised on the family farm until he enlisted with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry on November 20, 1942. Private Longney went overseas in August 1943 and after a few months spent in England, was sent to Africa, then Italy, where he was wounded on May 23, 1944 in a battle at Cassino. After lying on the battlefield for eight hours in 90-degree heat, he was finally moved by ambulance but was unconscious and had experienced heavy blood loss. Leonard passed away from shock on June 13, 1944. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star. LONEY, Leonard O. C. WWII Leonard was born in 1920 in Oxenden, Ontario. In Winnipeg in June 1941, he enlisted in the Canadian Army where he served as a Sergeant in Canada until his discharge in Winnipeg in October 1945. He was a member of Russell Legion Branch 159 for forty-five years before he died in 2000.
