113 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca LELOND, Wilfrid Fleming WWII Wilfrid was born on July 5, 1915 in Arrow River, Manitoba. He enlisted on September 19, 1939 and served with the 8th Field Regiment. Four units formed the Regiment: 61 Field Battery (Edmonton, AB); 71 Field Battery (Brandon, MB); 107 Field Battery (Cranbrook, BC); and 113 Field Battery (Regina, SK). Active service for the 8th Field Regiment began in England in the summer of 1940. They served from England to North Africa, Italy, France, Belgium, and ended in Holland on May 5, 1945. While on leave in England, Wilfrid met his future wife, Edna Mullett, and they were married in London on August 21, 1945. They raised six children and farmed in the Arrow River district until retirement to Miniota. Wilfrid was a member of Miniota Legion Branch 66 for forty-four years. He passed away in May 2003 and Edna died in November 2005. Both are buried in the Arrow River Cemetery, MB. LEMAY, Roméo L. WWII Roméo was born in Kenora, Ontario in 1924. He joined the Navy and served as a Seaman on Canada’s Atlantic Coast. Roméo is a Life Member of Keewatin Legion Branch 13 (over sixty-six years), as well as Past President. LISKE, Arnold E. WWII Arnold was born in 1921 in Inglis, Manitoba. He joined the Perth Regiment in December 1940 and served in Canada, England, and Italy before being discharged in March 1946. He was a member of Russell Legion Branch 159 for sixty-one years before he passed away in 2010. LETKEMAN, Gary G. WWII Gary was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1923. He enlisted in the Army in June 1941 and served in Canada and Southern England in the 101 Battery, 8th Canadian Light Anti-aircraft Division, as a dispatch rider during Hitler’s air raids. He also served in Continental Europe from Normandy until the end of the war. Gary was wounded in August 1944 and discharged in April 1946. Gary has been a member of Fort Garry Legion Branch 90 for over forty years.
