WWII Murray was born in Souris, Manitoba in 1922 and joined the Royal Winnipeg Rifles as a stretcher bearer/medic, serving in the UK and Continental Europe. His family would sit for hours and listen to the many stories he would tell about his intense experiences during WWII as well as tales about the good friends and laughs he had along the way. Murray’s first trade was as a bricklayer in Transcona then he became a painter. However, the last thirty-five years of his work life were spent at CNR. Murray is a huge sports fan, enjoying baseball, football and mostly, hockey. He has 3 daughters and 1 son, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and has been a member of Transcona Legion Branch 007 for the past eighteen years. KEARNS, Harvey N. WWII Harvey was born in Treherne, Manitoba in 1922. He joined the Canadian Army in Winnipeg and served as a Private with the Royal Canadian Engineers in Holland during World War II. His brother served in the Military Police in Winnipeg but Harvey met up with him again in England where his brother was a Dispatch Rider. Harvey received Service Medals and was discharged in Winnipeg. He has been a member of Russell Legion Branch 159 and he died in 1997. KEMBALL, Edward Joseph “Ed” WWII Ed was born in Homewood, Manitoba in 1916. He enlisted in the Canadian Infantry Corps on December 9, 1943, was assigned to the Algonquin Regiment for active duty, and shipped to England in June 1944. While fighting in Holland at the Battle of the Bulge, Ed was struck by shrapnel while attempting to clear a Bren gun. Severely wounded, he convalesced in England and was preparing to return to his unit when victory was declared. He returned to Canada and was discharged on March 28, 1946 in Powerview, Manitoba. He then worked for Abitibi Price in Pine Falls until he retired. Ed passed away on June 29, 2002, leaving a legacy of 31 descendants. He received the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. KEHLER, Bernard WWII Bernard was born in Horndean, Manitoba in 1924. He joined the Army and served in Canada with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. Bernard was a member of Carman Legion Branch 18 before he died in 2009.
