He joined the Army as a Gunner and served from 1941-45 as a radio operator and signalman with the 13th Field Regiment in England, France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany. On D-Day, he landed at Juno Beach in France. Norman was a member of Boissevain Legion Branch 10 for forty-five years and he passed away in 2004. HUNTER, William J. WWII William was born in Newton Siding, Manitoba in 1920. He joined the Army and served with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps in Canada and England. He was a member of Boissevain Legion Branch 10 for twenty-three years. IVALL, Leslie R. WWII Leslie was born in Rainy River, Ontario on June 3, 1922. He worked at various local jobs before enlisting with the 17th Field Regiment but was released because he was underage. In July 1940 when Leslie was 18, he enlisted again in Winnipeg and was assigned to the 2nd Medium Field Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery. After completing his basic training at Shilo, MB and Debert, NS, he was sent overseas to England late in 1941. He served a total of 5 years and 2 months in Canada, England, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany and was discharged in August 1945 in Winnipeg, after which he worked for the Canadian National Railway and Canada Post. He then managed a garage and later ran his own garage in Rainy River, after which he retired. He is still active at 88 and has been a member of Major Hughes Legion Branch 54 for fifty-eight years. HYNDMAN, Grant J. WWII Grant was born in Crandall, Manitoba in 1924. He joined the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve on his 18th birthday and for the next 3 ½ years, served almost exclusively on convoy duty in the North Atlantic on the St. John’s, Newfoundland to Londonderry, Ireland run. He was on HMCS Annapolis, Skeena, Beauharnois, and Petrolia. Grant has been a member of Miniota Legion Branch 66 for fifty-four years.
