73 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca HILL, Lewis M. WWII Lewis was born in Aneroid, Saskatchewan in 1919. He joined the Army and served with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles (Little Black Devils) in Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was a member of Killarney Legion Branch 25 for more than forty years. Lewis died in 2008. HILL, Robert Harvey PEACETIME Robert was born in Boissevain, Manitoba in 1941. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served for fourteen years in Canada and Germany. After basic training in St. Jean, Quebec, he trained as a mechanic at Camp Borden, Ontario then was transferred to Penhold, Alberta for three years. He then did a three and a half year tour at 3 Fighter Wing in Zweibrücken, Germany, spent four years in Alsask, Saskatchewan, then went on to Cold Lake, Alberta where he was released in 1976. Corporal Hill was awarded the 12-year Canadian Forces Decoration and the Special Service Medal with Bar. Robert was a member of Cranbrook Legion Branch 24 in British Columbia for eighteen years. HINCHLIFFE, Douglas R. PEACETIME Douglas was born in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1936. He joined the Navy, graduated from HMCS Venture in 1955, and completed Midshipman qualifying courses in Halifax. He served on HMCS Ontario, Crusader, Stadacona, Kootenay, Grandby, Naden and HMCS Buckingham during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He completed a six-month Clearance Diver Officer course in Halifax, a four-month Underwater Salvage course at Washington Naval Yard, plus an eight-month Explosive Ordnance Disposal course in Indian Head, Maryland before being posted to the west coast as Fleet Clearance Diving Officer in HMCS Cape Breton. He was also Officer in Charge of ship repair at fleet diving establishments and other postings, as well as Training Officer and Executive Officer. He resigned his Naval Commission in June of 1968 and has been a member of Swan River Legion Branch 39 for forty-two years. HILL, Stuart WWII Stuart was born in Liverpool, England in 1919. He served with the Royal Air Force in England, Canada and India during World War II. Stuart was part of the RAF Flying Control.
