He joined the Army and served in Canada with the Lord Strathcona Horse of the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force. He was a member of Boissevain Legion Branch 10 for thirty years. Victor passed away in 1984. HAMMOND, Harvey R. WWII Harvey was born on February 24, 1918 in the Rural Municipality of Morton, Manitoba. He joined the Army and served with the Lord Strathcona Horse in England, North Africa and Italy where he was killed in action on September 12, 1944. HANLIN, John Munroe “Jack” WWII Jack was born on a farm in Miniota, Manitoba in 1920. During WWII, he first served with the Army in England and then transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force. He married Pearl Feron of Glasgow, Scotland and returned to Canada in 1944 where he graduated as a pilot at Brandon’s SFTS. As there was a surplus of pilots, Jack was posted to England as a flight engineer on Lancasters with 434 Bluenose Squadron. On March 31, 1945, he was shot down over Hamburg, Germany and imprisoned at Stalag Luft 1 until his liberation in June 1945. Jack returned to Miniota to farm and was Councilor and Reeve with the municipality for 26 years. He still lives on the farm in the house where he was born. Jack has been a member of Miniota Legion Branch 66 for sixty-five years. HANDS, Garnet WWII Garnet was born in 1912 and passed away in 2008. He served as a Private in the Army in Quebec until his time of discharge in 1946. Garnet was a member of General Lipsett Legion Branch 99.
