45 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca FULTZ, Rupert R. M. WWII Rupert was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1915. He joined the Army and served with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders in England, Europe, France and Holland. He was a Major when he was discharged. Rupert was a member of Fort Garry Legion Branch 90 for many years before he passed away in 1988. GAINER, Nelson WWI Nelson was born in Arnaud, Manitoba on May 6, 1895. He joined the Army and served in Canada during World War I. Nelson passed away in 1975. No additional information is available. GALLOWAY, Peter Alexander WWI Peter was born to Mr. and Mrs. James Galloway near Carberry, Manitoba. He enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in January 1918 in Brandon, Manitoba and served in England and France with the 16th Battalion Canadian Scottish. After the end of the war, he returned to Manitoba and married Ethel Mae Abbot of Wellwood, Manitoba in 1920. They lived in Wellwood and Pine Creek where Peter took up farming and they raised three children. In 1946, Peter and Ethel moved to Penticton, British Columbia, where they resided until Peter passed away in 1961. He was a member of Gladstone Legion Branch 110 for a number of years and later joined the local Legion Branch in Penticton. GALLOWAY, Clare A. WWII Clare was born in 1923 in Neepawa, Manitoba and also lived in Pine Creek before joining the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in January 1943 in Winnipeg. In the spring of that year, he went to Camp Shilo for his basic training then proceeded to Niagara-on-The-Lake, Ontario where he served as a Private with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada. This Regiment had just returned from Jamaica and was on its way to Hamilton, Ontario, prior to being sent overseas to England for further training. His Regiment’s first battle was at the Falaise Gap in France, and he was wounded while in that country. Clare was awarded 4 medals and he returned home in 1945. He was a member of Gladstone Legion Branch 110 before he passed away in April 2002.
